DISC provides a sense of place for corporate, high-tech, and professional firms to locate and transact business. The project creates an attractive environment to enable Daphne to be competitive on a local, regional and national level to attract quality jobs that complement the quality of life on the Eastern Shore.

I continue to be excited about the Daphne Innovation and Science Complex, which I believe will be a major asset to Baldwin County and our entire state. Technology and science related jobs are booming, and the need for adequate infrastructure and training continues to grow each day. Given the convenient location and unique capabilities, I believe the project will allow Southwest Alabama to be on the forefront of a growing industry.

Professional and technological office space does not currently exist in Baldwin County, and the requests for this type of space made up 20 percent of the Baldwin EDA's generated activity in 2014. We are in need of the right size and suitcase space for knowledge-based jobs which produces high-paying jobs for our community. These types jobs yield community economic benefits such as new roof-tops, retail and increased property values according to economic impact studies. Baldwin County and the Eastern Shore have the quality of life, quality of place and educated population for these high-tech jobs.

Everyone knows the Eastern Shore has always been one of the most desirable places to live in America. With the recent announcements that several world-class companies are coming to our area from other countries, now is the time to build a research complex to support these new companies that are calling South Alabama home. My hat is off to the leaders of Daphne for providing bold, visionary leadership in planning for a new technology and innovation park for our area. The Daphne Innovation and Science Complex will be a magnet for even more exciting opportunities in the months and years to come.
